Santa Barbara Earth Day 40 Photo Contest and Exhibit
In 2010, we celebrate 40 years of Earth Day and the beauty of eco-conscious lifestyles and the planet we share.
As part of this celebration on April 17 – 18, 2010, LoaTree and the Community Environmental Council (CEC) will showcase the winners of the Earth Day 40 Photo Contest. This exhibit will feature 30 – 50 of the photos that best capture the power and beauty of eco-conscious living and the planet’s natural wonders.
Winning photos will be enlarged to 20 x 24” and displayed for two days at Alameda Park. An audience of approximately 20,000 is expected to attend the Earth Day Festival over the course of the weekend. Special thanks to our Earth Day photo exhibit sponsor, Specialty Color Services. |

Photo Contest and Exhibit Details:
What: Earth Day 40 Photo Contest and Exhibit
Who can submit: Anyone within the United States may submit photos for consideration. 50% of the selected photos for exhibition at Earth Day will be of subjects located within Santa Barbara County.
PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER EXHIBITION: We will also profile and feature a select group of images from regional professional photographers. For special rules and submission guidelines, email earthday@loatree.com directly.
Cost: There is NO cost to submit your photos.
Where do we submit photos?: All photos are to be submitted to the LoaTree Facebook Fan page or send them to earthday@loatree.com and we'll upload them to the Fan page for you. Simply go to the LoaTree Facebook Fanpage, become a ‘Fan” and upload your photo(s) to the wall and tag it with “ED40.”

Deadlines: All photos to be considered for this contest must be submitted to the LoaTree Facebook Fan Page by Friday, March 26th, 2010. Winners will be announced on April 9, 2010. Selected photos for enlargement and display at Earth Day must be able to be delivered electronically at a minimum of 150 DPI resolution and size to earthday@loatree.com on Tuesday, April 6th, 2010.
Winning Photos: Winning photos will be enlarged and displayed at the Santa Barbara Earth Day 40 Celebration April 17 – 18, 2010. Winning photos will be announced and publicized to regional media. We are not currently offering any prizes.
What should be included with your photos: Because you are submitting photos on Facebook, we can reach you if your photo is selected for the Earth Day exhibit. Please feel free to include a brief description of your photo on the LoaTree Fan Page. Selected photos for exhibition at Earth Day will require contact information, title and brief description of the photo that will be posted along with the photo at Santa Barbara Earth Day 40.
What type of photo subjects?: Nature photography, outdoor living, organic gardening, green business, civic activism and participation, family life, farming, celebrations, music etc. All of these images should be tied back to eco-conscious living and celebration of the planet.
How many photos can be submitted per person: no more than 3 photos per person.
What quality/resolution?: Selected photos for enlargement and display at Earth Day must be able to be delivered electronically of 150 DPI resolution and approximately 3000 x 3600 pixels (20” x 24” - larger is ok) to earthday@loatree.com. You may upload your photos to Facebook at any resolution, but if your photo is selected for display at Earth Day, the photo(s) must meet the selected requirements above.
Judging: A panel of 5 judges will be headed by experienced curator and photographer Brett Leigh Dicks and will include photographers, environmentalists and members of the Community Environmental Council.
Use of your photos: By entering the Contest, you agree to grant to "LoaTree" and the “Community Environmental Council”, its legal representatives, successors, and assigns the nonexclusive right and permission to use, modify, adapt, reproduce, publish, and distribute your entry, or any portion thereof, including your photo, throughout the world, in any media (print/digital formats) and by any kind of mechanical or electronic or any other method or device of reproduction, publication, and distribution known or later developed, during the full term of the copyright, and without notification or payment, in connection with the "Santa Barbara Earth Day 40 Photo Contest.” LoaTree and Community Environmental Council agrees to attribute authorship and copyright ownership to you when it publishes and distributes all or part of the entry you submitted.
