Although we’re already a full week into 2013, for many of us, the new year officially starts today. People head back to work, kids go back to school, and the email chains and phone calls will again begin to flow. But unlike 2012, 2013 will not end with predictions about the ‘end of days.’ Let this reality be our guiding light in the weeks and months to come.
Among my circle of friends, 2012 was a tough year. Careers shifted and jobs were lost. Friendships and relationships were challenged. Friends and family got sick and/or passed away unexpectedly. Horrific violence rocked quiet towns while people’s uprisings rocked governments. Finances were low, and politics, well – politics was politics…but just a bit uglier than the last time around.
These things happen all the time, but overall, 2012 seemed a bit more challenging, as if perhaps the Mayan prediction of the end of the world held some direct influence. Or maybe, through the power of collective thought, the millions of people around the world who were thinking about so called ‘doomsday’ were in some way attracting these negative occurrences at a rate more frequent than what seemed normal. In 2013, let’s turn that around! Let’s focus on making ‘13’ a lucky number. Let’s focus on harnessing our collective energy on bringing about good things all year long. Let’s have the Law of Attraction (LOA) work for us, not against us, by putting our minds to their highest and best use.
If you have faith in some higher power, or ever pray or think positive thoughts, or say to yourself, ‘that person has good karma,’ then this exercise is for you. And while some might think it’s cheesy or ‘new agey,’ it works. Give it a try and see what happens! Here are three tips to keep in mind:
Invite– We all have new year resolutions. Now, invite them into your reality! If one of your 2013 intentions is to ‘be more active,’ for example, go out there and make it happen. It’s one thing to be proactive and take a run with no outside influence – all power to you. But, when a friend asks you to work out, hike, or surf with them, say yes! Now, the universe is acting upon you to help you manifest your intentions.
Recognize– One of my intentions for 2013 is to make more money. After a Jan. 3rd shopping experience, I double checked my receipt and found that I had been overcharged by $2 on one item. I called the store and let them know of their mistake. The owner apologized and offered me these words: Next time you come in, I’ll give you $4. First I patted myself on the back for checking my receipt, but then I made the mental note that, ‘hey, maybe this LOA thing is working!’ Recognizing your manifestations is critical. It helps build a pattern by setting positive thoughts in motion. While the $2 payback is not the way I had envisioned making more money in 2013, it was a good start. The next day, I received a phone call for a potentially large business contract, one much more in line with what I had originally envisioned for growing my finances.
Practice– I told my friend Christina how I had just lost my wallet one night while out with friends (also in the first days of 2013). I was confident I would find it and asked her to believe the same thing. “It’ll come back,” I told her. Not moments later, a random number appeared on my phone with the words “Are you Eric Cardenas? Did you lose your wallet?” We hooted and hollered and gave high fives. She poured a mimosa to celebrate our accomplishment. She said, “Now that’s practice,” and explained it this way: “I practice all the time. Whenever I’m reaching into my purse for, let’s say, lip gloss, I visualize grabbing it right off the bat with no fumbling around among the thousands of other things in my purse.” When she told me this, I laughed. It seemed a little different than losing and finding a wallet or something even bigger. But there seemed to be a lot of power in this small type of action. It’s like using the Force but on a smaller scale. And, check this: First, she was inviting LOA into her reality by practicing, and secondly, when she succeeded in grabbing the lip gloss on the first try, she would recognize her success.
Admittedly, I’m no expert on the Law of Attraction or the power of manifestation. My only experience is through how I live my life and help run a business, and how my friends and family live theirs. It’s through these observations that I have seen good things happen to myself as well as others when people put their minds to it. For those so inclined, there are countless resources for you to study and learn from. But without that, please consider this a laymen’s view of the Law of Attraction and take it however you choose.
With that, let’s make 2013 a great year! And why not start by visualizing a cleared out email in-box. Good luck!
To your health, wealth, love, friends and family in this new year.
